Professional Requirements
Paid federal tax return preparation carries government requirements that are separate from any private program.
PTIN Responsibility
Paid federal tax return preparers generally need their own valid PTIN. Program enrollment does not replace the individual preparer requirements that apply to compensated federal return preparation.
EFIN Responsibility
An EFIN belongs to an approved e-file provider firm and is separate from an individual PTIN. Confirm the filing relationship that applies to you. Program enrollment does not itself grant IRS authorization.

Compare Tax ProgramsCommon Questions
Who is this for?
This advanced pathway is intended for experienced tax professionals. If you are new to paid tax preparation, start with the beginner tax professional page before choosing an advanced enrollment option.
Is this employment?
This is presented as an independent contractor opportunity rather than traditional employment. The written agreement controls compensation, responsibilities, expenses, and operating expectations.
What do the splits mean?
The 70/30 and 80/20 percentages describe the revenue split arrangement for your selected enrollment option. The written agreement defines what the split applies to, which party receives each share, when the amount is calculated, and whether any deductions or additional costs affect the final payment. Review it before enrolling.
Are the fees recurring?
The $399 and $499 amounts are one time enrollment payments. Any additional costs are disclosed before payment.
Is software included?
Professional tax software access is included. Confirm the software platform, access period, license conditions, and any limits that apply to your selected enrollment option before enrolling.
Do I need a PTIN?
Paid federal tax return preparers generally need their own valid PTIN. Program enrollment does not replace the federal preparer requirements that apply to compensated federal return preparation.
Do I need an EFIN?
EFIN requirements depend on how returns are filed and the approved e-file provider relationship that applies. An EFIN is separate from an individual PTIN, and private program enrollment does not itself issue an EFIN.
What happens next?
After you apply, the team reviews your application and follows up with the current acceptance, agreement, payment, onboarding, and access steps.
